Reading Kingdom offered me a chance to review their program, but our daughter is still a little too young to fully understand, so I offered my trail to one of the Mom's from her school. This is what she had to say.
This weekend I started my almost 4yo on the Reading Kingdom program. The program is set up for 4-10yr olds to assist them in learning to read & write up to a 3rd grade level. The program is set to conform to each individual child's needs and starts VERY basic if your child should need it--as my son does. My son has never used an actual computer before so his program started with learning how to use the mouse & keyboard by clicking on requested picture or letter. However, if your child is proficient in that area, you can choose the route to skip computer proficiency.
The program is set to help your child develop their reading & writing skills by focusing on 6 areas--sequencing, sounds, motor skills, meaning, grammar & comprehension--instead of only sounds (phonics) as it is normally taught in school. The sessions are short--10-15 minutes so they don't get too overwhelmed or frustrated--granted my son loved it and wanted to keep going!
I am excited about how much this program could potentially help my son, who does have a speech delay & currently gets speech therapy, I am hoping that this program can help us break through those areas that he has been stuck on with traditional teaching methods. The big bonus is that my son thinks it is fun and didn't fight me at all on it! Plus, they have a 30 day Free trial period, so you can try it out without spending a dime. I think that if you have a child, within this age group, who is struggling with reading & writing, or you just want to help them get ahead, this program is definitely worth a try!
