I was given the opportunity to try out one of the Perfect Foods Bar. Perfect Foods Bars are a healthier
version of the traditional protein or energy bar. Every ingredient
included in this bar can be pronounced and recognized and is produced by
nature. They are gluten & soy free & contain no refined sugar
or preservatives. Since there are no preservatives, it is to be kept
refrigerated--but it is safe to be left out for as much as a week--so no
problem with throwing one in your purse or taking them with you during
your longer physical training sessions. The first ingredients in their
bars are Organic Peanut Butter & Organic Honey!
I found it interesting that not only is Perfect Foods Bar a small family owned company but each of the bars is "handmade with love by happy people!"
They currently have 4 varieties available: Peanut Butter, Carob Chip, Fruit & Nut and their Lite Version, Cranberry Crunch. I was given a sample of the Cranberry Crunch Lite, which has 35% fewer calories than their Peanut Butter bar. It has 10 grams of Protein (their other bars contain 18 gms) and 3 grams of fiber. I have a bad habit, of not giving myself enough time
in the morning to eat before I head out the door to begin my crazy day
and I have frequently grabbed granola, fiber or protein bar to help me
make it through until I have time to eat lunch. What I have experienced
it that granola bars do not hold me at all, I am starving and tend to
grab the wrong thing for lunch, fiber bars fair only slightly better on
their own and protein bars, by far, do the best to maintain me until
lunch. The problem with most protein bars--I don't care for the flavor
of them, I had only found one bar that I actually liked until I tried
the Perfect Foods Bar.
To me the bar tasted just like peanut butter with some dried
cranberries in it. The texture was different than most protein bars (not
really sure how to describe it--more smooth than most protein bars,
less grainy in texture) and I actually liked it better. And I gave it my
"is it worth the money" test yesterday and it passed easily (and this
was the Lite version)--I ate it at about 9:00am for my breakfast (on the
run, of course) and my next chance to eat was at 2:30pm and I was just
then starting to feel hungry. Now, I am not suggesting replacing your
meals with these, on any sort of a regular basis but if you have
to--like I did--I think you will like them better than most other
protein bars--the box does recommend them as an energy snack! I think I
am going to get some of the Carob Chip bars next (yes, I am a bit of a
chocoholic) to keep on hand for the mornings I have to eat breakfast on
the go!
