We all know that all those traditional disposable diapers going into the landfill is not a good thing--but finding an eco-friendly, efficient and effective option hasn't always been feasible. Cloth diapering is a great but can be a challenge for children in day cares or with travel. GroVia--a company that carries "a diaper for every family" including cloth diapers, hybrid diapers, and now they have the BioDiaper!
GroVia's BioDiaper is the "green" eco-friendly choice for disposable diapers. They are 100% bio-degradable and compost-able. They are free of plastic, chlorine, G.E., fragrances and dyes. Their ultra thin 3 layer construction consists of:
- Super Soft Lining: Certified natural, 100% Ingeo spunbound non-woven fabric
- Core: Sustainably harvested wood pulp fibers--containing a minimal amount of SAP gel
- Waterproof Outer: the bio-film used (fecula) is waterproof and 100% natural
The package recommends removing the tabs (which has not been tested for biodegradablility & compostability before adding the BioDiaper to the compost pile.
I was given a package of size 4 BioDiapers to test out. Size 4 fits children from 26-50 lbs--so the sizing is a little different from the traditional 'sposies. I cloth diapered with my child, but would use disposables for travel and at night--I could never find anything cloth, effective for night time--he is a heavy wetter. We are daytime trained but still have a long way to go with the nighttime training--so the BioDiapers really got tested out at our house! First thing I noticed was that the BioDiapers are all white--perfect for those cute 'baby in their diaper' pictures--besides do you really care about the character design on the diapers--I don't--I want them to do their job and do it well. Second thing I notice is that they are larger than the standard 'sposie--not bulkier, just larger, surface wise, everything is securely covered and they still looked comfortable when on. Third, they work--our child wakes up with one soaked diaper but no leaks! The only major con I can see to the BioDiaper is the cost, they are a bit more pricey than traditional disposable diapers--but the are so much better for our children and our environment!
BioDiapers are available through several diapering stores around the nation and also online including on Costco.com.
