Last year I was introduced to a series of books that are absolutely remarkable and contain life lessons that are essential for children to learn at a young age. This series of books is called, Alphabet Kids.

Alphabet Kids is an original, multicultural series following the adventures of Allegra (Italian-American), Elena (Hispanic-American), Isaac (Jewish-American), Oni (African-American), Umar (Arab-American) and Yang (Chinese-American) as they learn to embrace diversity through language, foods, customs & music! The timeless stories help teach children to love who they are and learn that people who are different can be very good friends. The concept for the Alphabet Kids was created by Allegra Joyce Kassin and Patrice Samara, with the goal to help children love themselves and everyone and everything around them despite cultural or physical differences. Perfect for children ages 2-8!

The first 6 books in the Alphabet Kids series, all are co-authored by Patrice Samara and illustrated by Carol Nicklaus and Susan Unger, they are:
  • Allegra's Apple Tree--written by Vivian Treves and Patrice Samara
  • Elena's Birthday Surprise--written by Liana Perez and Patrice Samara
  • Isaac's Zoo--written by Neme Alperstein and Patrice Samara
  • Oni's Good Hair Day--written by Michelle Bodden and Patrice Samara
  • Umar's Magic Oven--written by Abed Awad and Patrice Samara
  • Yang's New Dance--written by Dr. Jingyi Hong and Patrice Samara
Alphabet Kids has added a new book to their series, The Alphabet Kids Go to the Planetarium! This new book is the first in their science and technology series, which is geared toward teaching children about areas of science and technology and the careers that they can discover related to these fields (scientist, engineering, astronaut etc).

The Alphabet Kids Go to the Planetarium follows Allegra, Elena, Isaac, Oni, Umar and Yang as they take their first trip to the planetarium and learn all about space and our solar system and the planets within. They are guided by an astronomer, Dr. Blake.

The Alphabet Kids Go to the Planetarium what co-authored by Issac J. Kassin, a 16-year old honor student who has established the Isaac J. Kassin Fund and The Charity Crew, which helps kids participate in charitable activities throughout their school years! His co-writer is Patrice Samara, and the book is illustrated by Mickie Quinn Boggs.

For each Alphabet Kids book that is purchased, one book will be donated to a child in need through the Alphabet Kids' Buy One, Give One Literacy Program.

We love the Alphabet Kids books, the first 6 books have gotten plenty of reading time in our house. I love what they stand for and what they teach children. My 5 year old loved The Alphabet Kids Go to the Planetarium. He enjoys science and technology, so this book was perfect for him!  I think any or all of the Alphabet Kids books would be great in addition to a child's home, daycare, preschool, elementary school or public library! Parents and teachers can find lots of additional resources on the Alphabet Kids website!
