Brooklyn based musical duo, The Pop Ups (Jason Rabinowitz and Jacob Stein) are releasing their second family friendly music album, Radio Jungle (kugelsongs/ASCPA) on April 3rd, 2012! Their unique sound, which has been coined "kindie rock" combines kid-friendly subjects and lyrics with pop-rock type music the adults enjoy and it all somehow works perfectly.
The press release I received with a sample CD of Radio Jungle, describes it accurately this way:
Radio Jungle is an even more polished, sonically cohesive and approachable collection of songs, with themes ranging from where "Bananas" come from, to the artistic potential presented by a "Box of Crayons." Teachable moments abound, as in the phonemic "Elephants" and the bouncy counting song "Math Rock." Clearly, The Pop Ups have not forgotten the wonder and sheer excitement of childhood, as evident in their song "Connect the Stars," and their exuberance and musical prowess shine with every track.
The tracks include:
1. intro
2. connect the stars
3. the bat
4. box of crayons
5. pop up city
6. math rock
7. best fruit
8. banana
9. feelings change
10. elephant
11. color wheel
My 5 year old gets a kick out of the music on Radio Jungle. I always tend to find him jamming away when listening to this album and as a Mom, I find I don't get as tired of it as I sometimes do traditional children's songs. I find the songs to be fresh and fun, with great rhythm, I will even find myself tapping along with the music.
The Pop Ups have also created and perform a critically acclaimed stage show called "PASTA: A Pop Ups Puppet Musical" and they are in the process of producing their next puppet musical, and they are scheduling a busy spring and summer concert tour as well. I bet your preschoolers would love the show! Check out The Pop Ups website to discover more!
Radio Jungle from The Pop Ups will be available on iTunes, CDBaby and other retailers nationwide! If you have a little one who loves to jam like mine does--this album is for you! Check it out!
