Titanic Anniversary Edition

This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the Titanic tragedy. Some of you may have caught the theatrical release of TITANIC 3D in movie theaters. I remember seeing James Cameron's TITANIC during its initial release when I was dating my now husband and the music from that film brings back memories. I was always impressed with how thoroughly the details of the Titanic's maiden and only voyage were researched and reenacted, right down to the turn of the century music.
To commemorate the anniversary of Titanic's voyage and tragedy, Sony Classical has released two newly remastered versions of the original TITANIC soundtrack along with extensive bonus materials. The two releases are TITANIC: Anniversary Edition and TITANIC: Collector's Anniversary Edition. Both albums feature a previously unreleased disc of period music that had been recorded for the movie by I Salonisti called, I Salonisti: Gentleman, It Has Been a Privilege Playing with You Tonight, which contains 2 marquee songs (along with 13 others), Nearer My God To Thee (the last song played by the 5-piece string quartet as the ship went down in the movie) and Song of Autumn (which doesn't appear in the movie but is rumored to be the actual song that the band played as the ship went down). Both collections also include 4 bonus vintage Titanic luggage stickers.  TITANIC: Collector's Anniversary Edition contains 2 additional discs featuring the remastered Back to TITANIC and Popular Music From the Titanic Era.

The plight of the Titanic and the passengers, continues to make an impression on people 100 years later. TITANIC is still the second grossing movie of all time and is only one of 3 films to have received a record 11 Academy Awards! I have always felt TITANIC was a must see movie, and the music is timeless, so I have enjoyed listening to the Titanic Anniversary Edition and I am sure the Titanic: Collector's Anniversary Edition is wonderful as well.

Thank you to Sony Music for my samples used in this review, opinions are honest.  Review by Michelle.
