Academy Award Winner Undefeated on Blu-ray/DVD Review

If you are looking for a really interesting and eye opening movie I would encourage to check out the movie Undefeated on Blu-ray or DVD.  This movie won the 2011 Academy Award for Best Documentary and it will really keep you interested.

Here is the synopsis of this movie:

No hope.  No future… Until a football season united a team and revealed the character that turned them into heroes.  UNDEFEATED, an Academy Award®-winning documentary (2011 Best Documentary Feature – Dan Lindsay, TJ Martin and Rich Middlemas), is the inspiring and moving tale of three underprivileged student-athletes from inner-city Memphis and their volunteer coach, Bill Courtney, trying to help them beat the odds on and off the field.

What struck me from watching this was the first 25-30 seconds of the clip which is how the movie begins, is the coach explaining how in just the past 2 weeks or so two of his players were shot, one player shot another individual with a BB gun and two other players got into a physical altercation during practice in front of a coach. His statement that some coaches may experience those events in an entire career while for him it is just a 2 week period is striking.  I am not the biggest sports fan but I really enjoyed watching this movie as did my husband.  He thinks that even if you are not that into sports, but are interested in life and the human spirit and what hope can do for individuals you will really like it too.  If you are into sports, football specifically, you will especially enjoy it.  I think this would make a great Father's Day present.

The movie focuses on the coach and three players of a high school football team in Memphis and shows the struggles each of them endure as they work through a season of football as well as just dealing with life in general.  The area the players of Manassas High School live in has been hit very hard financially and the day to day struggles the young men go through are eye opening. The movie takes you through the entire 2009 football season and shows the highs and lows.  

The movie runs almost 2 hours long and is rated PG-13.  This is a great movie for the fans of really good documentaries.  The DVD retails for $19.98 but I found it on Amazon for $9.96.  The Blu-ray retails for $24.99 but Amazon has it for $14.99.
