Leap Motion 3-D Motion Controller for Your Computer Review

If you looking for a new way to experience your computer through games and educational programs, I want to tell you about the Leap Motion Controller.  This is a device that can be used on your desktop or laptop computer. It is a USB plug-in which uses new 3D motion controlled technology. This device can be used with Windows or Mac.

As you can see in the video and picture above, the programs are explored and the games are played by using hand and finger movements. Here is how it works:
The Leap Motion Controller contains 2 camera sensors and 3 infrared LEDs. The Leap Motion software takes that information from the camera sensors into 3-D information.

There are a ton of apps that you can download for the Leap Motion from the Airspace store.  I was impressed with how many educational programs there are for people of all ages.  There is an app called Cyber Science 3D Motion which studies the human body. You can take apart the body at the skeletel level and learn about it and how it is all connected. There are also apps about the solar system, molecules, frog dissection and ones for younger kids including Caterpillar Count and Curious Kids. 

There are even more game apps.  My daughter is a big fan of Wreck-It Ralph so you can imagine her excitement when she got to design and race her own car in Sugar Rush.  To drive the car all you have to do is hold your hands out over the Leap Motion device as if you are gripping the steering wheel and move your hands as the race takes you around curves and up and down hills.  My family and I really had a great time playing this game.  We also downloaded the Fingertapps Piano app because my daughter has always been interested in playing the piano and she really enjoyed playing a virtual piano.  It will take a little time getting used to the hand and finger controls in the apps, but it is a very fun and interesting way to use your computer.

This is definitely not just for kids.  There are apps including ones focused on art and music, the New York Times and more. These will definitely appeal to older users. You can also use Google Earth using the Leap Motion which makes it a great way to use this program. It really is fun and interesting to navigate around the globe just by using hands and finger movements.
