Sure everyone who vacations in the Caribbean wants to spend as much time as is possible on the Beach, and that was my personal goal on our recent trip to the Beaches Resort in the Turks and Caicos. However, when you travel with a six year old and your friends from Sesame Street live there things get a little derailed.
I wont lie, it was a big disappointment for me for discover that my daughter did not have any interest in being on the actual beach. I will even admit that I got a little upset in the room when I suggested we spend the day at the beach rather than tracking down the Sesame Street characters. Then it hit me, my daughter is six years old and she believes with her whole heart in everything that Sesame Street has to offer and this phase, if you will, wont last forever which is why we changed our plans and spent as much time at Camp Sesame as was possible.
Even though Beaches includes Nanny services with their all-inclusive package, I could not bring myself to leave our daughter. It was not that either my husband or I did not trust the ladies, we did, especially when we discovered that they are all members of the International Nanny Association but this was a family vacation and we wanted to spend time together as a family. Even if that meant a little less time on the beach and a whole lot more time enjoying the family activities that Beaches offers such as:
- Pirate Island Waterpark
- Sesame Street®
- Kids Camp
- XBOX® Play Lounge
- DJ Scratch Academy
- Kids Scuba Program
Obviously based on our daughter's age we focused solely on Sesame Street. From baking cookies with the Cookie Monster (yes, you can bake cookies with the Cookie Monster), to looking for treasures with Abby and dancing with Elmo there are activities planed all day every day.
For ten years Sesame Street has been a part of the Beaches family and to celebrate, Barry Goldberg, a Sesame Street Character Artist was on site showing all of us how to draw our favorite friends. I had the privilege of attending a private session for just the social media moms and was so impressed that the next day I made sure that my daughter and husband attended.
As you most likely know Beaches is an all-inclusive resort, but there are a few options that you can elect to participate in. Did you know that you can have a Sesame Street Character come to your room for a private bedtime story and tuck in for your child? Night, Night Sleep Tight was hands down the most memorable evening of our trip. From her expression when she opened the door and saw Grover standing there, to asking him to take selfies with her on her LeapPad Ultra 3 to the bed time story read by his helpers that came with him the smile never left her.
We also chose to spend our final morning by attending the character breakfast which when you walked in you knew was more of a party then breakfast. Big Bird, Oscar, Elmo, the Count and the whole gang came out to visit, color and dance. We upgraded to the deluxe family package, which comes with a 8x10 print and 2 plushes to take home.
I could not get over the attention paid to each child, for example the Count joined us and played tic tac toe, he even took the time to learn how the new Let's Imagine Elmo worked and I am proud to say he mastered it in no time.
While I did wish to spend more time on the beach, there will be time for that on another trip. The magic and belief that comes at this age only lasts a short while. For that I want to thank Beaches for being the place that created these memories that will forever be remembered in our home.
