How To Give Life to Your Old Trampoline
https://www.flickr.com/photos/Children beg and beg to have a trampoline in their backyard. But after a few years when the novelty has worn off, the trampoline is left unused and unloved in wild weathers, and they soon fall victim to the dreaded mildew. Definitely not the best look for the garden! But it seems a shame to take something once loved to the tip. So how do you upcycle a piece of play equipment that is no longer fit for purpose? Easy. Turn it into a swinging day bed.
There’s something about being suspended above the ground and rocked gently by the wind. But fancy purpose-built swing beds can get pretty pricey. Thankfully, transforming your trampoline into a suspension bed is quite a simple project. Everything you'll need you can pick up from a local hardware store or supermarket like Tesco.
You will need:
Trampoline frame ring, bounce mat and springs
Trampoline Accessories
A screwdriver
Soft foam padding
Sheet
Braided rope Strong chain
Cushions, throws or blankets
1. Cut the trampoline down to size
To create the base of your fabulous new swinging bed, you will need to remove the trampoline legs from the frame ring, bounce mat and trampoline springs. To do this, you may need to unscrew bolts with a screwdriver. If they are stubborn, scrub them clean of rust and dirt with a wire brush and oil them up before giving them another go. Once the legs are removed, your base is ready. Easy.
2. Cover the springs
If you had a trampoline as a child, you’ll remember how painful it could be to get little fingers trapped in the springs. Help make your swing bed safe and cosy by wrapping cloth around the springs and the outer frame several times to form a soft, cushioned layer.
3. Cover the mat
There are a few ways you can cushion your trampoline so it’s soft and enticing to lay on. The easy way is to cover the whole trampoline mat with a sheet and cover it in cushions.
4. Hang the bed
Trampolines have a tendency to really sag in the middle. And that’s not going to make for a very comfortable swinging bed. When you attach the suspension rope to the bed, run the ropes underneath the mat and up around the sides to bolster up the middle a bit. Bring the rope ends together at the top and tie them into a strong knot, either over your bed support or connected to a chain.
5. Hang your bed

You’ll need to find a safe, reliable area to hang your swinging bed - a tree in the backyard is your best bet. Make sure it will be capable of carrying the load. Then suspend your bed with strong braided rope. Then for the fun part. Make the bed welcoming with some cozy cushions or throws.
Once you’re happy with your swinging bed, go grab a cold drink and a good book and lie down in your reworked trampoline bed for a lazy afternoon. Check out these other garden recycling tips if fixing your old trampoline has inspired you!
