Christmas is coming and, like most of us, you probably aren't as
prepared as you’d like to be. There are the parties to organize, the
kids to entertain, the Christmas cake to prepare and the presents to
buy. It's good to make a head start on gift buying, to beat the crowds
and just generally put you mind at ease. Need some inspiration? Take a
look at these ideas for the family.
1. Dad
Ok, let's get dad sorted. If he's a beer drinker,
he'll appreciate the current boom in craft beers. Put together a
selection of local brews or you could even book him on a brewery tour
(complete with sample tasting, of course). There are also a number of
hilarious novelty gifts out there that are sure to make him laugh, from
chocolate Brussels sprouts to a pair of sandal socks to special man flu
remedies. If he's into cycling, biking or driving, there’s a great
selection of hardcover books that detail routes around the world —
something to inspire him. Is he into technology? Treat him to a tablet
or the latest iPhone, but only if he's been good this year.
2. The Kids
Little
ones go mad for toys and this year there are lots of fun options.
Character toys, like Elsa and Minions, are still going strong, with the
new addition of this year's Inside Out characters. With the release of
Star Wars soon upon us, the Star Wars Lego, computer games, figurines
and fancy dress costumes are good options. Barbie's popularity shows no
sign of wavering and you can now get a cycling Barbie or a Barbie Glam
Camper van. If you want to give a teddy bear, My Friend Freddy comes
with an app so that it connects with your child properly and encourages
them to learn. Naturally, you can also go for classic Christmas toys such as bikes and let your children expend some of that extra energy they always seem to find at Christmas time!
3. Teenagers
Teenagers
are tricky to buy for, so ask them if there's anything specific that
they want or need. Girls are wild about Michael Kors at the moment and
although this might seem expensive, you can find accessories like bags,
purses and keyrings at a decent price. Boys love their computer games
and the PS4 is probably the hottest console out there right now. New
game releases for Christmas include Fallout 4, Destiny: The Taken King
and Star Wars Battlefront. Not sure what books, clothes or music they
want? Give them gift cards so that you don't insult their taste!
Remember
to treat yourself too, even if it's just a bottle of bubbly or some
special chocolates. You could also leave a trail of not so subtle hints
around the house. Good luck with your shopping mission and don't let it
get too stressful.
