If
your family is anything like mine, you enjoy many books around the
holiday season. My boys love books about snow, snowmen, Santa Claus,
Christmas trees, you name it, if it has anything to do with Christmas
they're game. I however, needed a new book because all of the ones they
have are getting a little bit repetitive. I found a new and heartwarming
story in "The Night The Lights Went Out On Christmas" by Ellis Paul.
The
book follows the story of Christmas Block, a neighborhood known for its
competitive nature when it comes to their Christmas lights, everyone
has to have the biggest and brightest display. One year however, they
take the whole competition too far and power gets blown out for the
whole neighborhood, then the country, then the whole world! The whole
event turns into a blessing in disguise as everyone realizes that the
universe has been putting on its own light show the whole time. They are
all reminded that its the simple joys that are the true meaning behind
the holidays and that when everyone stops trying to compete with each
other, that's when they can all truly come together and enjoy them.
"The Night the Lights Went Out On Christmas"
features brightly colored illustrations and is a great gift idea for
Christmas, or even an early gift so you can enjoy it on Christmas Eve.

Oh my favorite is driving around at night and seeing all the beautiful lights! We do that about 4 nights a week...we just go out for about 1/2 hour and drive around different neighborhoods and look at them all. We have the kids count Santas or Snowmen ....great math and they have so much fun!

We have two houses across the streets from each other that do their lights to music every year! We visit there everytime we can...so fun to watch and on the weekends, Santa visits in the window! Oh the kids get so excited!
