Imagine that you have gone to check on a friend in an asylum, but you notice something a little strange about the doctor. He is letting visitors come in, but you don't see anyone leaving. With the help of a security guard, do you think you could escape with just 60 minutes on the clock? If not, you will become a permanent resident. This is the exact situation my family and I encountered when we visited the Trapped Escape Game in Sevierville, just outside of Pigeon Forge.
We were not sure what to expect when our security guard led us into this small patient's room and left and locked the door behind him. We knew this was the beginning of our mission to get out of the Asylym, though this was just the first of a few rooms we would have to unlock before completing our task. The goal is to use the clues and tools left behind to figure out how to unlock the door, but once we got out of this room, we found ourselves in another room, which was bigger and like a living room. Along the way we had to solve different kinds of puzzles which gave us numeric combinations to open certain padlocks while other locks required us to find keys by solving puzzles and many times, thinking outside of the box.
I don't want to give too many details and don't want to share too many pictures, because thst would spoil the experience. All I can say, is that my family and I had an amazing time trying to escape from the Asylum. All three of us at one point or another were responsible for finding clues or figuring out puzzles which moved us closer to escaping. I will share that we did not escape, however, our security guard told us we got further than most others have in the 60 minutes given to us. If you and the other players do get stuck and aren't sure what to do next, you have three clues that you can obtain from the guard who is watching and listening to you the whole time to make sure everything is okay. If you really need more than 3 clues, you can get them, but it will cost you 2 minutes off your time for each extra one.
Though we didn't escape, our security guard came in and showed us the remaining steps to get out. My husband and I figured that if we had about 10 more minutes, we think we would have had the time to finish the remaining steps. When it was all done, we were able to stop and catch our breath and were surprised how much we were able to figure out in the time allotted. It also gave our daughter a chance to play with some of the props. I can not say enough about how much fun we had and how challenged we were to figure out the puzzles and escape. Having the clock counting down really got all of our senses heightened. We were all so focused and trying to figure out what is a clue and what is just something put there to throw us off the right path.
The Asylum is not the only scenario offered at Trapped Escape Game. There is also one called Capone where the players have been captured by Al Capone and they have one hour to escape before he comes back to interrogate them. They also have the Haunted Cabin where the players break into a cabin to steal a secret moonshine recipe and a stash of money and get out before the old man who owns the cabin returns.
Trapped Escape Game is just 4 miles from downtown Pigeon Forge. If you have a group of 2-10 people, my family and I highly recommend visiting them and trying your hand at escaping whichever scenario you put yourselves in.
