General Mills
has been on a journey to provide people with the best nutrition they
can get from their foods. More than that, they have partnered with
Feeding America to help raise awareness about our country's food crisis.
Many people are unaware that there is an issue that close to home, but a
child could be going hungry as close as the house next door to them. 1
in 7 people will struggle to get enough to eat. 1 in 5 children have no
idea when their next meal will be. Working with groups that collect and
donate food, and food banks simply isn't enough sometimes, and they
surely cant do it alone. People need to know that there is a hunger
crisis plaguing America.
September
is Hunger Action Month as well as National Whole Grain Month, the
connection goes deeper than simply the label of "food". Hunger can be
more than simply being hungry, children across the world have stomachs
full but bodies that remain weak and lacking in nutrients needed for
average and healthy growth. General Mills knows that 95% of Americans
wont get the recommended 48 grams of whole grains in their diet, and
they have worked hard to provide more ready to eat cereals with Whole
Grain as the first ingredient than any other cereal producer in the U.S.
Ensuring that customers get the nutrition they need. To help raise
awareness for Hunger Action Month, General Mills sent me a farmer style
hat, on which I wrote my commitment as to how I could help end world
hunger. For National Whole Grain Month, I was given a harvest themed box
of Cheerios (My second favorite only to Cinnamon Toast Crunch) and on
the box was the process that grain goes through to become cereal. I also
received a divided and labeled food groups plate to remind me what is
needed and how much, and a booklet that features information on whole
grains, as well as recipes that will help ensure the right amount of
whole grain at every meal.
General Mills
has pledged to continue their journey to offer its customers the best
they can give, removing things that people want to avoid and making sure
the nutrients you need are in their products. They want to be a company
you can be proud of, and will continue to strive to give you many
reasons to be.
