Being a mom of two boys, and an avid
gamer myself, there are few games I know as well as Minecraft. What
began as a test to see if I would like the game, very quickly evolved
into both boys playing along side me as we work to build the biggest and
most lavish house, or the deepest mine. Trying to keep the children and
myself from spending too much time on the games we love is something
that has become harder as they have gotten older. I've tried and failed
to use their love of games to cause interest in other
things. Transitioning a child's love for technology over into a love of
something else is a challenge, one that Barron's books has seemed to
take on, and accomplish many times over.
Barron's recently sent me the Ultimate Dot-to-Dot Minecraft puzzle
book to review and I was quick to check it out before my sons snatched
it away from me. My oldest in one of those children who solve all of the
puzzles in a coloring/activity book, before coloring any of the
pictures. Cant blame him, I was always the same way. The book features
40 different puzzles, some having up to 1000 dots! What's great is that
the world of Minecraft is designed perfectly for dot-to-dot, its all
straight lines! The puzzles feature familiar scenes that gamers would
have come across while playing the games themselves. Scenes like the
Ender Dragon, a pig, different biome scenes, and many scenes featuring
the enemies that, despite our best efforts, gamers have grown to love.
