It’s Not An ACT, These Kids Really Do Love Brushing Their Teeth

This post and party were sponsored by ACT Kids Toothpaste but all the thoughts and opinions are my own.

As a Mom we try our hardest to do the best for our kids and while most of the time the kids are agreeable and go along with us, we all know there are times when they want to fight us tooth and nail.  For us it is the age old "what are we having for dinner"; debate that we all know very well, which is why it is no surprise when I say the answer is always "I don't know/care"; well the fact is as Moms we do care what our families want for dinner because most of the time we are the ones not only making the grocery store run but also the ones cooking it just to have the kids yell back "I didn't want this" or "You know I don't like this" Over the past few years I have wised up to this game and now we make a weekly menu, we each pick two dinners for the week (we are a family of 3) and then we go out once. This way we all have an equal say in what we have for dinner and knowing ahead of time saves time and allows for one grocery needed stop a week, which when you are as busy as our family is a must.

I am sure you are wondering why I am telling you this. It’s because I read that a recent survey found nearly 4 in 10 Moms (35%) say getting their kids(s) to brush their teeth is one of their most frustrating daily battles, in line with convincing their kid(s) to eat their vegetables (38%) and putting their kid(s) to bed at night (40%)*

To help Moms show kids that brushing is fun, we invited a handful of kids to the office one afternoon after school and had a brushing party where we talked about:

  • Eating Healthy & Drinking Fluoridated Water - Make sure your child has a balanced diet, and limit sugars and starches that can contribute to tooth decay.  Drinking fluoridated water is also 3 very important.  In fact, according to the American Dental Association, studies show that water fluoridation reduces tooth decay by at least 25%.
  •   Brush 2x a Day - Kids should brush their teeth with a fluoride toothpaste twice a day for two minutes each time.  New ACT Kids Toothpaste is specially developed just for kids ages 2 and up to strengthen and protect developing teeth and help prevent cavities and comes in flavors kids love.
  •  Add Rinse When Kids Turn 6 - Fluoride rinse can provide additional cavity protection for kids 6 and older.  Swishing for 60 seconds a day with ACT Kids Anticavity Fluoride Rinse reduces children's cavities up to 40% more than brushing alone!
  •  Floss Daily - Flossing is an essential part of taking care of your teeth and gums.  As soon as children have two teeth that touch, flossing daily is important to remove plaque from between teeth and under gum-line.
  •  Visit the Dentist Regularly - A check-up is recommended every six months to help your child stay cavity-free and to assess changes in oral health.
Our party focused on ACT Kids Toothpaste, which is now available for kids ages 2 and older in both bubble gum and fruit punch flavors. We let them try each flavor and for kids ages 6 and older we talked about ACT Kids Anti-cavity Rinse. The kids all had a positive response to the toothpaste and of course the fact that Batman was on the tube was a major plus with the boys.

I also shared with the Moms that the new ACT Kids Toothpaste is now available at a variety of retail locations, including select Walmart, Walgreens and Target locations.

* This survey was sponsored by Sanofi Consumer Healthcare and conducted online using Toluna's QuickSurvery methodology between February 13, 2017 and February 14, 2017 1,150 mom with children between the ages of two and 12 in the USA.  Respondents for Toluna QuickSurverys are selected from among those who have agreed to participate in Toluna surveys.

**Toluna’s SmartSelect TM methodology was used to promote sample representativeness. SmartSelect relies on statistical matching rather than probability sampling to select survey respondents, based on demographic, attitudinal and behavioral characteristics that match those of the target population. Figures for age, gender, region, race/ethnicity, education and income are also weighted to bring them into line with their actual proportions within the population. Because the sample is based on those who agreed to participate in Toluna surveys, no estimates of theoretical sampling error can be calculated.
