Everyone
is familiar with the newest trend of adult coloring books, and while
this newest trend has yet to lose its trending status, you might be
overwhelmed with the number of books available to you. For something
that is supposed to calm you and relieve stress, choosing which book you
want to purchase might actually cause you more stress. The thing to do,
might be to take this trend in a different direction, you could get the
same results with a fun new twist on coloring! Zendoodle Calm
by Felicity French and Lauren Farnsworth will still relax you and help
you de-stress after a hard day like the ordinary adult coloring books
do, but this book also feeds your artist soul. Well, it will if you have
one.
Zendoodle
Calm takes those coloring books a bit further, instead of filling the
spaces with color, you fill them with doodles. What exactly are doodles?
What does "doodling" even mean? Doodles, also known as "tangling", are
simple repeating patterns and drawings that are used to fill different
areas of an image. Your doodles can have meaning but don't necessarily
have to, just draw random patterns, whatever comes to mind! I found this
books a lot more relaxing than other coloring books, and I've tried my
fair share (I have over 12 different ones at home.) Some of the time I
actually get more stressed out because I want the colors to be perfect
or don't want to accidentally stray outside of the lines, and sometimes
the pictures are so detailed they take such a long time. This book
didn't have that effect one me, at least so far, and I finished three of
the images. The book is set up in a "color-by-number" way, but you
certainly don't have to follow their patterns, you can use your own
ideas to fill those spaces...
I actually messed up on one of my pictures
and filled in a space with the wrong pattern, I just switched the
pattern for one of the numbers I hadn't gotten to yet and no one (but
you and I) will be the wiser. On another of my images, I used a
different color for each pattern and ended up with an adorable patchwork
quilt kind of effect. You can really make this book your own, which was
a very refreshing feeling for a book that's meant to calm you. I feel
like this actually does.
Zendoodle Calm
is filled with images of animals, flowers, landscapes, and mandalas.
All images that will calm and soothe you while you fill the spaces with
doodles. Follow their guide on the side of the page, or let the image
inspire you and create your own image and flow. This is, in my opinion,
the book that any and every stress "doodler" need in their calming
arsenal.
