5 Ways To Enjoy Denver For Less

The mile high city, also known as the capital of Colorado is a truly unique city, with beautiful landmarks, a rich history and a vibrant and eclectic culture, which keeps the tourists coming back for more every year.

For families, Denver also offers lots of things to do, from walks and festivals to free days at some of their biggest attractions. In fact, it’s possible to enjoy Denver for not too much money at all, especially if you follow this simple 5-step guide.

Free public art tours

Denver’s art scene is not only well-known for the artists that it celebrates, but also its inclusive nature, as it offers lots of free public art tours to both residents and visitors.

Run by Arts & Venues Denver, the tours take place on foot, bike or scooter (whichever you prefer) and they take participants to venues like the Colorado Convention Center and the Ellie Caulkins Opera Hour to view famous works of art and learn all about their creation.

Museum free days

This philosophy of providing free access to important venues also extends to the museums in the city, with participating venues including the Denver Art Museum and Molly Brown House.

The Children’s Museum of Denver lets families play for free on the first Tuesday of every month, but only between the hours of 4pm – 8pm. Perfect for infants and children up to age 8.

Red Rocks Amphitheatre & Park

The Red Rocks Amphitheatre & Park is a well-known concert venue, and when there’s not a gig on the cards, the free Visitor Centre is home to a Performers’ Hall of Fame. At this celebrated venue visitors can access and learn all about the famous musicians that have played in Denver.

Afterwards, visitors can hike the surrounding park and walk around the colourful red rocks that give the venue its name.

Tour Colorado State Capitol

Free tours are available at the gold-domed Colorado Capitol Building from 10am – 3pm Mondays through Fridays.

Visitors can listen in to the Colorado General Assembly, then check out some of the other sites in the building, such as Allen True’s murals and the Rose Onyx wainscoting. 

Ride the Lariat Loop Byway

If you have a car, jump in and race to the Lariat Loop Byway, a beautiful 40-mile scenic circle that can be found in the foothills just west of the city.

The Lariat Loop was built in the early 1920s and takes visitors on a journey to some of the state’s most famous attractions, including Buffalo Bill’s Grave and Museum and the Mother Cabrini Shrine.

Denver is a great city for kids and their parents, so look for hotels in Denver and then start planning an affordable itinerary. It’s easier than you think to see the best of the Mile High City.
